We’ve also seen new trends emerge within the fashion community, some of which may have been controversial. As we look back, let’s take a moment to highlight 3 of the most trending fashion appearances of 2024… 

1. Lace

Lace has become a very popular material this year due to its versatility.  This delicate fabric has been used in many different styles, from elegant tops to ethereal dresses. Designers showcased lace in both casual and formal wear, adding a touch of  femininity and elegance to any outfit. During the 2016 Spring/Summer season, lace appeared in numerous men’s fashion lines;  Moschino Spring 2016 menswear line made a bold statement, incorporating rich ruffles with a full lace tuxedo, setting the stage for lace and all gender inclusivity. Now in 2024, this material has been embraced by all age groups. From trendy preteens to sophisticated middle aged adults, lace is everywhere, making its way into everyone’s closets. Within the younger age groups, we saw lace worn as going out tops and from the maturer age groups, worn as elegant dresses as well as under skirts and shorts as fun tights. Although lace has always been a staple in fashion, 2024 has been its year to shine. 

 2. Boho chic 

Originated from the hippies of the 70s, Boho chic has officially returned this year. With vibrant designs and floral patterns, Boho Chic embodies a style centered around freedom. As designer Isabel Marant puts it, “Boho is about a woman who travels and picks things up along the way, mixing and matching.” First appearing on screens in the popular 2000s show “Gossip Girl”, this style was emphasized by the character Serena Van der Woodsen. With the show taking place in the big city, this look quickly became a distinct aesthetic. This year, the style has made its comeback, with designer brands like Isabel Marant and Chloé capturing the idea of femininity through their designs. With boho chic being around for so long, proves it to remain timeless, as it has once again become fashionable. 

3. Chunky Jewelry

Accessorizing your outfits has been a massive trend in 2024. Simple minimalist styles paired with big chunky jewelry create a look that is both simple yet fashionable. This combination has been a choice for many this year and allows for a subtable yet bold statement. Oversized chunky hoops and layered bangles elevated many looks this year. Jewelry like this can be adapted to fit numerous different styles, which is why it has been so trendy this year. Whether you’re dressing for a formal event or casually getting groceries, these accessories add subtle style.
